Improving Profitability for Health Services University
A private equity firm engaged KDM Advisors to work with one of their higher education institutions experiencing poor financial results. The university, which focused on health services programs, suffered from declining enrollment and growing competition. Working closely with administration and board members, our consultants performed a comprehensive review of the university's recent financial results, proposed budget and operating plan as well as overall organizational structure and staffing levels.
Based on a detailed data analysis and collaborative discussions with key stakeholders, we identified opportunities for revenue diversification and expense rationalization, including restructuring several departments. We presented our recommendations to senior leadership and board members, outlining a prioritized list of action items and associated timelines for implementation. The result of our work resulted in the university increasing its EBITDA by more than $15 million.

We worked with a software development company with several higher education clients to improve its financial and operational visibility to allow senior management to understand its marketplace better and make more informed decisions regarding strategic alternatives and investment choices.
We partnered with the management team to review all financial reporting and planning processes. We devised improvements to the company's annual budget and monthly financial reporting package and established a weekly cash flow monitoring model. In addition, our consultants introduced operating and financial metrics and dashboards, which enabled the management team to focus on key data that drove sales and support costs. These improvements were also used to update board materials, helping the company better tell its story and obtain board approval for major initiatives.
